Meta’s Messenger Privacy Policy Update Sparks Interest Over Future Ad Targeting and Marketing Use

The addition of new in-stream labels on Messenger differentiates the policies between business and personal interactions in the app for users.

Meta has said: “This could include improved product experiences such as faster response, personalized ads, and improved AI quality.” which confirms that business chats are not private, and are not protected by the same encryption tools that personal interactions are.

So for businesses using meta ads detailed audience targeting will be tailored to currently engaged audiences resulting in more effective campaigns which are tailored and relevant.

This is a step forward, providing more transparency and understanding in the process, especially as more Messenger features transition to default encryption.

TikTok Users Can Now Create Their Own AI Voiceover

Voice AI simulations can now be created in app so that creators can now create voice overs to their own clips as opposed to using generic templates. 

This voice can then be used in future content and even enable translation of your custom voice-over into other languages.

Although this is a great opportunity for content creators and businesses to be able to roll out content in a more time-efficient manner while improving personalisation, it’s also likely to result in more believable deepfakes and hoaxes, based on people’s real voices.

LinkedIn Has Introduced In-Feed Video Carousels 

With video uploads up 34% year-over-year on the business platform, LinkedIn has launched new video carousels to help promote discovery of interesting content.

The videos will be tailored algorithmically matched to users, based on in-app activity and noted profile details.

The social team at Democracy will be trialling how the snackable style content format aligns with the type of professional engagement users typically seek on the platform.

Instagram Launches New Music Feature Alongside Sabrina Carpenter

Instagram is rolling out a new feature in partnership with pop star Sabrina Carpenter that will allow users to add a song to their profile (much like My-Space in the early 2000s)

From last Thursday Carpenter’s official Instagram profile will offer an exclusive preview of her unreleased song, “Taste,” before her album drops on Friday. Instagram notes that this profile music feature is the only way to hear the song before its full release.

Music can only be played by the user clicking the track on their profile (so no autoplay), but this looks like an interesting development for music marketing moving into 2025.
