LinkedIn launches ‘Gen Z’ radio podcast

LinkedIn has officially announced the launch of their first podcast, iHeartRadio, focusing on Gen-Z career development. The podcast will provide insight into the evolving world of work for younger listeners.

The weekly chat show discusses what it takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your values, sanity, or sleep. It is full of honest conversations and unfiltered questions about work, life and how they overlap.

LinkedIn has been working to build its own original podcast content, after initially launching the “Podcast Network” in 2022, which has now grown to include a range of LinkedIn branded podcasts that focus on professional development and career skills.

YouTube introduces new feature for parents to keep tabs on their kids

The platform is rolling out a new supervision feature that enables parents and guardians to link their personal YouTube accounts to their childs. It has been introduced in an attempt to make parents more aware of their teens’ online activity whilst encouraging safe practices.

The accounts will be linked via the YouTube family allowing parents to see shared insights such as subscriptions, comments, and how many uploads their child has made. Email notifications will also be sent out to both linked accounts to flag notable activity from the account.

This is YouTube’s first attempt at building on the existing supervision tools, noting that additional features may be added to provide further insight into the users activity.

Instagram enhances it’s DM engagement

As the use of Instagram direct messages (DM’s) continue to rise, the social media platform has added new engagement features that will help to spice up your personal chats.

The first new feature includes drawing and sticker tools that can be added to images shared within the DM’s, providing another way to customise your messaging engagement.

Although users have been able to customise images from your feed and stories up until this point, this feature is now being added to your DM options, offering a more considered messaging process. Instagram’s also expanding its cut-outs option to DMs, so you can use specific elements from your photos as stickers.

Instagram added cut-outs for stories back in May, and it will now also be available as an option for DM shares. In short, it’s a new feature but it’ll now be available in more places.

Online media is spearheading the news movement

Everyone knows that the newspaper industry is slowly declining due to the continued rise in popularity for digital news. Research now shows that television (TV) is now facing a similar fate.

Online platforms have now overtaken TV for the first time as the most popular resource for news among adult consumers, at 71%, versus 70%, according to new research from U.K. communications regulator, Ofcom.

As online platforms take over broadcasters and newspapers, the news they carry now comes from a much wider set of sources. Although this exposes users to wider viewpoints, it may be considered a curse for being significantly harder to vet for accuracy — and consumers are concerned that this will only get worse with the growth of artificial intelligence.
