Meta asks California AG to block OpenAI’s conversion to for-profit 

OpenAI’s transition from a ‘not-for-profit’ to a ‘for-profit’ model has sparked significant debate. Meta has publicly supported Elon Musk’s call for closer oversight, even sending a letter to California’s Attorney General urging them to block the move.

OpenAI responded by releasing emails and texts from Musk, asserting that “he should focus on competing in the marketplace rather than the courtroom” as a reference to his rival company xAI.

TikTok offers educational tools to assist sellers

To further encourage the in-stream shopping channel TikTok shop, TikTok has added some resources to help sellers understand the platform policies and optimise their listings.

This includes the introduction of a weekly ‘Account Health Report’ which will provide information on potential policy violations and how to tackle them and other account related issues.

This could be an effective way to ensure that sellers’ accounts remain within the policies laid out by TikTok and maximise their chances of widening their consumer audience on the platform.

Social media given ‘last chance’ to tackle illegal posts

From the 16th of March 2025, more than 40 safety measures will be put in place, as part of the Online Safety Act (OSA), to reduce exposure to illegal material on social platforms.

The social platforms have until then to carry out assessments identifying potential harms, or they risk being fined up to 10 per cent of their global turnover. 

Ofcom states that its codes provide clearer guidelines for removing intimate image abuse content and offer more detailed instructions on identifying and taking down material involving women forced into sex work.

Instagram tests scheduled DMs

Instagram is currently testing the possibility of scheduled DMs with a select group of users.

Users with access to the option can schedule their messages by pressing and holding the send button to open a schedule prompt to adjust what date and time they want their message sent.

This will be helpful for brands looking to outreach across multiple time zones or planning and mapping out content in advance.

Google’s latest AI will change the way we use the internet forever

Google has unveiled its latest AI advancement ‘Project Mariner’ which is said to be the biggest advancement in web browsing in the last 34 years.

This new tool will come as an experimental Chrome extension which will be able to take over a person’s screen to process the information displayed and take action.

This coincides with Google’s mission to create a universal AI assistant who can help with all types of everyday tasks such as booking holidays and paying fines.
