YouTube updates its policies on harassment
YouTube is expanding its policy around user harassment to now cover ‘veiled or implied’ threats and insults based on gender, sexual orientation, and race – plus repeated attacks over time.
This follows demands from the YouTube community, who feel the platform has not been proactive enough.
This policy change from YouTube is the latest in a series of ongoing refinements to improve user safety and ensure an appropriate environment for their community.
‘Personalisation’ is the marketing word of the year
The ANA has announced that the marketing word of the year is ‘personalisation’, as voted by 341 members from a long list that included ‘data’, ‘in-house’ and ‘quality and inclusion’.
One of the members stated that “personalisation is what customers expect”, whilst another believed that “consumers are busy – too busy to invest time with anything that’s not relevant to them personally”.
Last year’s word was ‘brand purpose’.
Earlier this year the ANA published a report on the increasing use of personalisation by businesses, describing personalisation as the trend of the decade.
Instagram now testing new layout options for Instagram stories frame
This week Instagram has commenced limited testing for a new layout option for its Stories. The new ‘Layout’ option will allow users to split their screens and opt for new six grid-style presentation modes for their still images.
This new Layout option was originally spotted back in August but has since moved into beta testing. Users also noticed that Instagram was testing a new range of Boomerang modes. However, there has been no further news on this since August.
Google’s top UK searches of 2019 revealed
Google has revealed this year’s top UK searches – and it was a year of sport with the Rugby World Cup taking the top spot, closely followed by the Cricket World Cup.
Hot on their heels, in third place, was Game of Thrones with interest fuelled by its season finale.
A full list of the top search terms by category has been published with searches divided by categories including News Events, topped by the Notre Dame, and Celebrities which saw Caitlyn Jenner crowned the most searched for personality.
Instagram Begins Rolling Out Collaborative Group Stories Option
It’s been truly a busy testing week for Instagram, who is set to release another tool called ‘Group Stories’. This will allow users and their friends to collaborate on a private Instagram Story.
The new feature is very similar to Facebook’s Group Stories released in October 2018 and has been developed to leverage the growing interest in group messaging and boost engagement.
