Pinterest advertising now available to UK customers
At last, promoted pins are now available on Pinterest! Brands can now target a specific audience and increase the reach of pins on a cost-per-click or a cost-per engagement basis.
Each audience can be targeted through a range of categories including demographics, interests or keywords.
Brands can in turn analyse the success of each promoted pin, via data provided by Pinterest, including impressions, engagement, click-throughs to a website and activity. “Conversion pixel” analytics are also available to brands, which tracks activity based on the objectives of a campaign.

Facebook introduces new businesses tools within messenger
Facebook’s users can see three new tools rolled out on the messenger platform, including messenger codes, messenger usernames and messenger links. Consumers can now start a conversation with brands, simply by scanning a code that comprises of a series of dots and dashes found under their profile picture. The new tools bear a significant resemblance to that of Snapchat!

Reddit launches official apps for iOS and Android
Reddit has finally announced the launch of official mobile apps for iPhone and Android. The app will be available to download in both the App Store and Google Play Store in the UK, US, Canada, and Australia. There will be lots of new updates and features for users that will be rolled out exclusively on mobile first. The first feature releases are being prepared and will be updated at least once a month, so watch this space!

Twitter makes Direct Messages easier to share
Instant conversation is a hot topic this week! Twitter has decided to take steps towards a more seamless direct message experience for its users. A new message button has been added to tweets which allows users to share a tweet via direct message. The new tool enables users to spark up an instant conversation and will allow them to share unique content from their feed to a private conversation at the click of a button.

Automatic alternative text for images posted to Facebook
Facebook users can now generate a description of a photo through object recognition technology, in the form of automatic alt text. This is processed through Facebook’s artificial intelligence engine and helps establish image content. Facebook says that the system can identify a wide range of objects and scenes, which they funnel into “concepts” to keep it on track.
