Pinterest Video Ads

Pinterest this week introduced promoted videos onto their advertising platform to further the offering they have. Promoted videos are currently being heavily pushed on paid social media as a technique to catch the eye with the customer and increase engagement.

Promoted Pinterest Videos will appear in the feed in a GIF-like format and are currently only available to businesses with accounts based in the U.S. and U.K.

Pinterest Adds New Features

With social media changing so quickly, Pinterest have added some new features that will make it a much more enjoyable experience than in the past.

Simple messaging – now you can send a friend Pins and invites even if you aren’t following each other.

Send pins – Now you can send Pins, boards and profiles to friends across apps for example; Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, text etc.

Fine-tune your home feed – Get rid of those annoying “Picked for you” pins that appear in your home feed as recommendations as now you can turn off the “Picked for you” setting.

Carousel Ads go from five to ten

Facebook have quietly published a feature to allow up to ten ‘cards’ to be used in a carousel ad. Having the accessibly to use ten pictures instead of five will allow brands to try exciting new adverts in a creative way as shown above. This combined with the introduction of video in carousel ads makes an exciting type of advert for brands to use on Facebook.

Facebook app for teens

Facebook have this week launched a new social media app aimed at school teenagers called Lifestage.

Currently only available in the US, users are able to upload pictures and videos with a more emotional attachment about their feelings, likes & dislikes.

One concerning issue with the new app is the lack of privacy, as users aged 21 and over are still able to view profiles. In addition to this, the app has a warning stating that they can not guarantee whether the users on Lifestage are genuine, opening further concern for parents and their teenagers activity online.

Google Challenge Facetime with Duo

With the popularity of Facetime over the last few years, Google have finally launched their simple video calling app for Android and iOS devices. The app is a simple one to one video chat app that provides a clear video and easy to use interface that is simplistic in doing the basic task of a video call.

Will this app be as popular on Android as it is with the Apple’s equivalent, Facetime?
